“Nicole has been tutoring my daughter twice a week since March 2021 to address a language deficit with features of dyslexia.
Nicole first undertook a thorough assessment and identified my daughter’s specific weaknesses. She then formulated and implemented a tailored individual tutoring plan for her that she continues to review.
Nicole is a highly skilled, diligent, intuitive, and knowledgeable tutor. She has an abundance of patience and has developed an excellent working relationship with my daughter, who looks forward to her tutoring sessions.
Under Nicole’s expert tutelage, my daughter’s school performance and self-esteem have continuously improved.
Nicole is, quite simply, an outstanding tutor, who I cannot recommend highly enough.”
Evie says:
Dear Nicole,
I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for all that you have done for our son. As a parent of a high school student with dyslexia, I have seen first-hand the challenges he faces in his daily life, particularly with reading and writing.
But since he started working with you, I have seen a remarkable transformation in his confidence and abilities. Your kind and patient approach, along with your ability to make him feel at ease, has made all the difference in the world to him. He has become more confident in his abilities and motivated in pursuit of his interests. His reading, writing and comprehension have improved even though we haven’t been able to make it as often, or as consistently as we would have liked. You have helped us in finding a balance in life, allowing him to pursue his interests and talents in soccer while also committing to tutoring.
Your dedication to helping him overcome his difficulties and reach his full potential is truly inspiring, and I am so thankful that he has you as his tutor. Your unwavering support and encouragement have made a tremendous impact on his life, and we are forever grateful.
With sincere appreciation,
Evie and John
Erin says:
“My 15 year old son has been seeing Nicole for one-on-one tutoring for three years. He has dyslexia. The standard schooling approach never worked for him. We now happily home educate using a Natural Learning framework. Even though reading is challenging and often frustrating for him, he enjoys his weekly session with Nicole. He feels very comfortable with her, and they clearly have a good relationship.
Nicole is incredibly patient. She has taken great care to get to know my son and his particular needs and sensitivities. She is always flexible and creative in thinking of ways to meet his needs. She has a thorough understanding of and passion for the Natural Learning approach and is open to working flexibly within its principles while also building a logically sequenced approach to learning.
Recently, we transitioned to online sessions, this process went very smoothly. The Barton Program online tutoring resources make working this way easy and effective.
Being a parent of a child with learning differences is both challenging and rewarding. For me, Nicole is a great source of encouragement, positivity and support. I am extremely grateful for her understanding and compassion.
If you're looking for a great teacher, you just found one!”
Nathaniel (age 11) says:
"Nicole is good at many things but the most important to me is that she explains things very well and she is quite nice."
Rebekah (Mum of Nathaniel) says:
“My 11-year-old home-educated son identified for himself that his spelling was "holding me back Mum from lots of things I want to do" and asked me, "Can you find someone to help me?" I was so very grateful to find Nicole, who, as an ex-teacher and home-educating Mum herself, has been a fabulous fit for my son.
Nicole follows the Barton Reading and Spelling System and is highly capable of adapting to the needs of the child in front of her. She listens with interest and intent to both myself and my son. She is an exceptional communicator and highly organised. She has many resources available and can work both in-person and online. She builds confidence by her manner of interaction with my child and is willing to have a laugh along the way. She engages my child where he is at on any given day and is able to adjust her pace as is needed.
As an experienced reading and spelling tutor highly versed in Unschooling and dyslexia, she is able to follow the lead of the child and work within their interest level, recognising that learning takes place at a very individual level in a myriad of ways. As a parent, who found learning to spell easy as a child, I am loving being exposed to the Barton method alongside my son. It makes the complexities of English spelling understandable and accessible for my child. I have had many a-ha! moments myself.
I have noticed that my son's willingness to try with his spelling has grown since working with Nicole. His frustration is being replaced with a growing awareness that he has tools to help him achieve his goals. Thank you, Nicole, for your kindness, knowledge, organisation and fun style that really seeks to build connection.”
